My cultural heritage's influence on my art

I have always felt very powerful as an artist! A good deal of my power draws directly from my Mexican American culture.  As a Chicano creating fine art I have inherited a great history for artistic inspiration. My artwork’s imagery sometimes draws from both old European and the ancient Aztec Empire in both subject matter and iconography. In many of my prints, paintings, masks, and paper mache works you can find a synthesis of ancient symbolism from the Aztec Empire and Roman Catholic iconography.

I have been a professional artist since age eleven. I am now close to sixty. I feel I am just scratching the surface of my artistic expression. So much more to learn and create!
