Donald Trump Pinata! Explained!
Piñatas are an old Mexican tradition that continues in popularity. The piñata and other paper mache art media were introduced to the native people of Central Mexico by Franciscan friars during the 16th century. Soon after native people of Mexico incorporated the use of colorful piñatas and paper mache art into their own unique cultural expression.
During the following centuries Mexicans used piñatas and paper mache art forms for festivals, birthdays, and even political events. For some religious and political gatherings Mexican artists created large sculptural figures out of paper mache. Often these larger paper mache forms represented demons and unpopular political personalities. At times, these paper sculptures were set on fire or blown to pieces using firecrackers.
The practice of creating paper mache piñatas representing unpopular political personalities continues to this day. Currently Donald Trump piñatas can be purchased at almost any Mexican market in San Francisco. No other American president has ever been so disliked by Mexicans and Chicanos.
Trump’s negative and vicious comments concerning Mexican immigrants has inspired me to create my own TRUMP PIÑATA. My depiction of TRUMP consists of a huge orange head with bafoonish, shaggy yellow hair. I made sure to depict Trump’s mouth as wide open. Out of his mouth dangles a long, red, serpent-like tongue.
